How do I weigh up evidence in academic report writing?

Evidence is the foundation of all university studies and scholarship, including your graded work. To persuade your marker that you know what you're talking about, you need to give strong evidence to back up your position, demonstrate how you arrived at your findings, and illustrate that they're based on rational grounds. We respect your right to an opinion and value your input, but if you want people to agree, you'll need to provide evidence and explain how it proves your point.  You can report writing help for this purpose.

What Are the Elements of a Good Report?

Report writing service is a common request from students. Report writing help looks at many different things. People scan through words to get information, not to learn about literature. Help with report writing is different from traditional essay writing because it focuses on citing sources to avoid plagiarism. In contrast to essay writing, the writing style should be less rambling.

Our report writing service uses language more directly and efficiently. After fleshing out your arguments, you'll want to provide some well-reasoned, actionable suggestions, followed by sound, evidence-based conclusions.

What is considered evidence?

One of the most common ways to bolster an argument is to cite another source, such as an ally or supporting evidence. As you learn more, you may need to add to this strategy by citing more sources or making critical comments about them. One reference is acceptable but might be too selective and leave out better or more contradictory sources. Even better is a carefully chosen source from a well-known study or scholar, and best of all, several sources that show a weight of evidence building up?

Depending on your topic, what counts as good evidence will be different? While the Social Sciences frequently draw on qualitative and quantitative data, the Physical and Medical Sciences rely on empirical evidence. For example, if you're writing a reflective assignment, you can use your experiences as evidence. However, if you're writing a report, you shouldn't do that because it might not be representative, and the reader can't check it.

Why is it important to have supporting evidence?

Evidence gives your argument or claims more weight. Without proof, you look like you don't know much, and your opinion isn't firm. An idea without evidence will fall apart like a building without a strong base.

Have you ever told someone who made a claim, "Prove it"? That's because you're looking for proof. You shouldn't just take someone's word for something unless you know it's true.

Nor do the people who will read your essay or research paper. Substantial evidence is a must if you want your writing to be convincing and believable.

Finding evidence from reliable sources

We said that "from a credible source" requires solid evidence, yet many children (and adults) don't grasp what makes a source reliable. After all, fake news from unreliable sources spreads on social media.

You can weed out many sources that aren't reliable by using academic databases and search engines. It's also good to see if other sources give the same facts and figures.

When you're not sure how to judge a source, try using the letters RADCAB. RADCAB stands for:

• Relevancy

• Appropriateness

• Detail

• Currency

• Authority

• Bias

Weight of the Evidence

The term "weight of evidence" (WoE) defines the type of consideration applied when there is an ambiguity to determine if the evidence or information in favor of one side of a cause or argument is more compelling than that of the other side. We all make personal WoE decisions every day. Still, more formal WoE methods are used in many different situations, such as business, education, health, the law, and science.

WoE is a term that is often used in policy-making and scientific writing, especially when it comes to assessing risks.

Using proof to back up your claim

Adding a reference at the end of a sentence is sufficient citation in some cases, but in others, you may need to do more. In order for your reader to grasp how your evidence backs up your claim, you'll likely need to conduct some explaining, analyzing, and interpreting.  You might think the reader can figure it out on their own, but as the writer, it's your job to do that work, not the readers. As you write or revise your draught, ask yourself: What does this evidence mean to me? What should the reader think? Why does this explanation make the most sense?

• How does this piece of evidence back up what you're saying?

• What kind of help does it give you? Do you want to talk about or acknowledge any problems or gaps?

• How does this piece of evidence affect your argument?
